Transmog is a beloved fan feature, but one that not a lot of games seem to support from the get-go. Essentially, when designing a character, there’s always a player need to look stylish but have the best gear available too—which doesn’t always line up. Transmog allows players to alter the appearance of their gear so that it looks like players want and has the power/abilities they want too.Outridersdidn’t have transmog at launch, but it is adding it in the new freeNew Horizon update forOutriders. And, its transmog feature puts a lot of games to shame.
The thing is, transmog seems simple enough: the ability to essentially apply skins to other weapons and armor. However, when games do feature transmog systems, they are sometimes needlessly complicated. In a lot of transmog systems, players have to dismantle items and/or complete complicated grinds. In the worst-case scenarios, microtransactions have been used to speed up Transmog systems. It’s even worth noting that, a few months ago, someone calculated thatthe max Transmog cap inDestiny 2would take 7 days to complete. Whereas a lot of games can drop the ball with Transmog,Outridersgets it right and sets the bar for the industry.

Outriders: How Transmog Works
First off, there is no need to dismantle items, it does not change or add a new grind, and it would never in any circumstance require microtransactions. All players have to do is openOutriders’ customization menu, use the new visual customization screen option, and select the appearance they want for their currently equipped armor. These items will be marked with a new icon, so players don’t forget what items they’ve changed appearances on. (Information seen around the 7:30-mark below.)
There is no need to use in-game resources or anything like that, either. Transmog inOutridersis absolutely free, and all players have to do to unlock the new appearance is have picked up the item before. There are no limits on transmog either, allowing players to change any of theirOutridersweapons and armor piecesas often as they so choose. Perhaps the best part is that this spans acrossevery character slot inOutriders, so anything picked up across all characters applies to the visual customization screen.
And, to top it all of too, the transmog options are not limited byOutriders’ classeseither. Obviously, the abilities don’t transfer, but if players want their Trickster to look like a Devastator, their Pyromancer to look like a Technomancer, or any combination thereof for any reason whatsoever, it’s entirely possible withOutriders’ transmog system. It’s simple and easy.
The broadcast confirms that transmog has been one of the most requested features inOutriders, and it seemsPeople Can Flyhas more than delivered on the premise. Player option and choice are at the forefront of this transmog system, and fans can start filling their transmog libraries as soon as the new Horizon update hits on November 16.
