Overwatch 2is one of the more highly anticipated multiplayer games in recent memory. The original is, of course, a hugely successful title, and many fans cannot wait for the launch ofOverwatch 2. While Blizzard has remained quiet, it’s looking more likely that the game is still far from release.
There is a lot toexpect fromOverwatch 2in 2021including new announcements, details on the game, and the possible release itself but with its continued success,Blizzard Entertainment does not need to rush the game. Based on recent information, including new job postings, it could be thatOverwatch 2is developing a little slower than previously expected.

Some recentrumors have pointed toOverwatch 2being delayed. Many fans expected a big reveal next month at Blizzcon and while that could still happen, rumors seem to indicate that it could miss the show entirely. Right now there are 43 job openings forOverwatchrelated positions at Blizzard. While not all of them point directly to hugely important roles for the development of the game, some seem critical toOverwatch 2, like “Senior Game Producer, Missions.” Another job opening, Lead Mission Designer, is asking to “help build a strong team environment.” This job description lingo seems to point more towards the beginning of a project than the middle or end of it.
Of course, thebest multiplayer gamesare usually of an ongoing nature, which is the case forOverwatch 2. Blizzard will need team members to continue to build maps, create skins, make new characters, and more as it grows the game post-launch. It is also possible that leadership positions become available during the development of a game as team members leave for other opportunities. However, where there is smoke there is often fire. There have been quite a few rumors regardingOverwatch 2’s slow development, so this is just another example of this.
Late last year it was believed that therelease window forOverwatch 2was possibly teased by the Overwatch League vice president. The season structure has been changed forOverwatchthis year, as it will begin in the spring of 2021, instead of starting right around now (which is usually the case). The idea was thatOverwatch 2could come out alongside the beginning of the new season of theOverwatchLeague, meaning spring 2021.
However, if these rumors are true about the slow development of the game, that may not be the case. So if the new2021 season starts for the Overwatch Leaguein spring and the originalOverwatchis what is being played as a part of that competition, that almost guarantees thatOverwatch 2would release after that Overwatch League season is complete; putting the game at least in the Q4 2021 window or after.
