Summary
Mortal Kombat 1’s revealed and leaked DLC fighters give players a look at a strong roster for the future, but can also make one wonder what could have been. While there’s no doubt that the characters revealed so far can be great additions, a few fighters in particular can evoke a different argument. With many ofMortal Kombat 1’s DLC fighters being either missing for a long time or completely new to the series, there is a lot of potential to be had. By taking a look at the fighters revealed, it’s worth asking some questions about NetherRealm’s future plans.
The revelation ofMortal Kombat 1’s first DLC fighterswas exciting for a few reasons. For one, it revealed the truth behind one of the first rumors surrounding the game. However, more importantly, it gave players an early look at some of the upcoming fighters. Kenshi’s son Takeda, living collection of souls Ermac, and the villainous Sorcerer Quan Chi all managed to get spots as worthy returnees to the series. The other half of the DLC is made up of guest fighters, with those being Peacemaker, Homelander, and Omni-Man. All three hail from mature superhero properties, which could turn out to beMortal Kombat 1’s DLC theme, as two more DC fighters are rumored. However, leaning too heavily into DC cameos could be a bit frustrating forInjusticefans.

Mortal Kombat 1’s DLC Brings To Mind Injustice 3’s Absence
Peacemaker deserves special mention, especially regardingrumors of futureMortal Kombat 1 DLCthat list Deathstroke and Harley Quinn among the cast as well. All three hail from the realm of DC comics, with Harley in particular being a rather famous character. At first, they may seem like off additions toMortal Kombat. However, they are all more than familiar with violence. Peacemaker and Harley have their own adult-themed shows as well as the recentSuicide Squadmovie, and Deathstroke is a professional assassin. With their experience, it’s not unusual to imagine any of them pulling offMortal Kombat-styled fatalities.
All of these DLC fighters bring to mind another of NetherRealm’s fighting game IPs. WhileInjustice 3seems to be far off, the fact that at least one DC character is confirmed forMortal Kombat 12and two more are rumored makes it hard not to think about.Injustice 2came out in 2017, and featured an excellent cast of DC characters fighting it out. It’s not hard to imagine Harley, Deathstroke, and Peacemaker fighting it out with fellow DC icons, especially since two of them have graced the series before. Instead, they’ll be squaring up with theMortal Kombatworld’s most lethal warriors.
While Peacemaker, Harley, and Deathstroke are exciting additions toMortal Kombat 12, there is something bittersweet about their inclusion. The three areperfect guest characters forMortal Kombat 1, but their presence will remind players thatInjusticeis still waiting for another installment. That universe still has story potential worth exploring, as well as worthy DC characters that haven’t had the chance to step into the games yet. While the door isn’t closed onInjustice 3yet,Mortal Kombat 12is a reminder that fans still have to wait, although at least a few more DC stars will be playable in the meantime.
Mortal Kombat 1made some excellent DLC choices, but accidentally drew attention to another popular property in the process. It’s possible that these guest fighters beingadded toMortal Kombat 1’s rosterare a sign that NetherRealm hasn’t given up on theInjusticeseries yet. After all, Harley was one of the biggest characters in those games, so seeing her inMortal Kombatwill bring back memories for some fans. Whileinjustice 3still remains in limbo, fans can look atMortal Kombat 1’s DLC offerings and wonder what the future could hold.
Mortal Kombat 1will be available on June 03, 2025 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
