September has seen many announcements from Sony through the recentPlayStationShowcase. During the event, triple-A titles such asMarvel’s Spider-Man 2andGod of War: Ragnarokreceived trailers, while severalsmaller games such asTchiagot some attention as well. While the PlayStation Showcase is over, the announcements keep coming from Sony.
Recently, a reveal trailer for the upcoming action-RPGAsterigoswas released. The project is being developed by Acme Game Studio and looks to add some excitement to the traditional RPG formula. Formed in 2016, the Taiwan-based studio is relatively new and wants to use new technologies to create the best possible gaming experience for players.Asterigosjoins an impressivelist of PlayStation exclusives in productionand is expected to come to PS4 next Spring with an enhanced version for the PS5 coming later in 2022.

Set in ancient Greece, this new 3D adventure has an art stylereminiscent ofImmortals Fenyx Rising. According to the game director Cheng Hsien Lin, some of the inspiration behind the design for the world came from ancient Rome and classical Greek architecture and art. In addition, the developers look to provide many areas to traverse in the game world including a bazaar, sewers, forests, and deep chasms filled with precious gems.
The main character seen in the trailer is Hilda, a Northwind Legion warrior. The plot of the upcomingPlayStationgame centers on the protagonist as she searches for her father amidst the ruined landscape of Aphes, a city that has become cursed after its people carelessly used magic. Along her journey, Hilda must battle many fierce enemy types as she attempts to find out what happened to Aphes. Some of the creatures include werewolves, brutes, and Calydonian boar, each with unique attacks.
In addition to the trailer showcasing some of the battle mechanics, Cheng Hsien Lin gave some more details about combat in a blog post as well. According to the game director, the combat system for the game is directly connected to character progression with players unlocking more options as they progress. Furthermore, as players advance through the game, they are able to choose between 6 different weapons: sword and shield, dual blades, spear, hammer, staff, and magic bracelets
Asterigosis one of many new games coming to PlayStation consoles over the coming months. Games such asDeathloopandKena: Bridge of Spiritsrelease this month, while other titles such asHorizon Forbidden Westare coming at the beginning of next year. With the exact release date forAsterigosnot confirmed yet, it will be interesting to see where this new action-RPG lands among Sony’s packed list of upcoming releases.
Asterigosis expected to release in spring 2022 for PS4 with an enhanced PS5 version coming in fall 2022.
