WhilePokemon Diamond and Pearlaren’t known for their abundance of choices when it comes to Electric-typePokemon,every greatPokemonteam needs one, and since there areno Electric-type startersinBrilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, it’s important that players know their options. There are some great choices for Electric-typePokemonthat are easy to overlook.
Updated on June 03, 2025 by Renri Seong: Electric-type Pokemon are useful Pokemon to have on the team due to their type effectiveness. They’re strong against Water and Flying-type, which are common Pokemon found in the wild. SinceBrilliant Diamond & Shining Pearlonly covers four generations of Pokemon, many Electric-type Pokemon aren’t available in theDiamond/Pearlremakes. Fortunately, there is still a handful of that players can choose from. Some of these Pokemon are readily available while others can only be caught in the postgame and may or may not be version-exclusives. The following list has been updated to include more Electric-type Pokemon that can be caught inBDSP.

14Pachirisu
Pachirisureally shines when it comes to its Speed stat. At 95, Pachirisu can outpace many opponents during battle. Pachirisu can fall short in its Attack and HP, though so players may not take it all the way to the Elite Four.
Pachirisu can most easily be caught by walking in tall grass atFeugo IronworksorRoute 205, where it has a good chance to spawn.

13Plusle / Minun
PlusleandMinunare technically two separatePokemon, and while players likely won’t choose bothPokemonto fill the Electric-type spot on their team, they both have their benefits. Plusle is a more attack-focusedPokemon, while Minun is a more defensivePokemon. BothPokemonhave an impressive Speed stat of 95, which can be useful in battle, and their sole Electric-typing means that they have few weaknesses.
Both Plusle and Minun can be caught inTrophy Gardenwhile walking in tall grass.

12Lanturn
WhileLanturnisn’t hailed as the best Electric-typePokemon, it has its merits. Lanturn’s HP stat of 125 is impressive, especially compared to its other lower stats like its 58 Defense and Attack stats. Lanturn’s opposing Water and Electric Dual-typing gives it great weakness and resistance.

10Electrode
WhileElectrode’sHP and Attack stats are nothing to write home about, its enormous Speed stat is more than enough to make up for it. With iconic moves like Explosion and Self-Destruct, which results in Electrode fainting, most players choose to use Electrode only as a last resort, though it has a decent enough move pool to be used as aPokemonin most players' main team.
Voltorb, Electrodes lower evolution, can be caught in tall grass onRoute 218and also in theGrand Underground. Voltorb willevolve into Electrode at level 30, which shouldn’t pose any issues to players withBrilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl’sconstant Exp. Share.
