The iconic tool is a hallmark of the series, and one fan has decided to pay tribute to them by creating an impressive Poke Ball shadow box.
Used as the means to capture and store Pokemon, the device is easily one of the most recognizable fictional objects that exist. The significance ofPokemonand its Poke Balls seems to be a point of pride for its native Japan, with Japan’s Minister of Foreign affairsgifting the President of Chile a Poke Ballcontaining aPokemonplushie inside during an official state visit between the two nations.

With the franchise now spanning nine generations, dozens of games, and over two decades of history, there have been quite a few different Poke Balls created, which all have specific attributes and uses. Just about all of these different Poke Balls are on display courtesy of Reddit user u/Gexuality. The shadow box displays every major type of ball featured inPokemon, all in a classic pixilated appearance. In addition to the Poke Balls, the artwork cleverly integrates a speech bubble with an apt phrase, in addition to utilizing the background by making it the Poke Ball menu screen.
The creative art piece is clearly a hit with fans online, garnering hundreds of likes while filling the comment section with purchase requests. While the shadow box is impressive, anotherPokemonfan has taken their love for the series' various Poke Balls a step further. This particularPokemonfan has been taking on the task ofknitting every Poke Ball in real life. The fan posted a pic of a crocheted Poke Ball pile a while back, with their collection totaling 10 different types thus far. While due for an update, the work so far has impressed thousands of fans.
With many ofPokemon’s Poke Balls having been around for quite a few years, calls for new ideas with them have begun growing amongst some fans. Deciding the current ball types have become “dull and drab,“one fan is suggesting a new type of Poke Ballcalled a Type Ball. Basically how it would work is that the exterior of the ball would change color to the type of Pokemon stored inside, with dual-type Pokemon’s Poke Balls being two-tone. The type’s symbol would be present as well, offering a much more colorful take on the traditional Poke Balls.
While the Type Ball is certainly an interesting prospect, it’s unlikely to make it into canon anytime soon. However, with the next video game entry in the franchisePokemon ScarletandVioletleaking new system and gimmick details, there’s a chancePokemonfans could be getting a new type of Poke Ball sooner than they think.
