Pokemonis a franchise that is constantly looking to put out the next new thing. Whether it be the next mainline entry in the franchise, the next mechanic orPokemontype to be added that will shift the meta, or the next set ofPokemoncreatures to join the huge cast of current Pokemon. With nearly 900 Pokemon for players to catch at the time of writing, many fans of the franchise often joke that there’sa Pokemon out there for everyone, considering designs that are based on anything from animals to ice cream.
Since the first generation ofPokemongames, bug-types have been a staple of the series. With the caterpillar Pokemon Caterpie and its counterpart Weedle making their way toPokemon RedandBlue, fans have been introduced to bigger, cuter versions of the insects they can find in real life. Though not everyone is a fan of bug Pokemon, such as Misty in the originalPokemonanime, there are plenty of people who findbug-types to be interesting and strong Pokemon.

Reddit user ThatOneGuy7832 is pointing out that not all of the bug-type Pokemon are perfect recreations of real-life animals. Arachnids especially seem to be something that thePokemonfranchise just can’t get right, as thePokemonfan shows in their list of all the Pokemon based on spiders. Surprisingly, none of the “spider” Pokemon featured in the franchise have eight legs, something that is generally associated with spiders.
The closest Pokemon to an actual spider by the terms of the Reddit post is Spinarak with six legs and a clear spider-like design. However, Spinarak is listed as the “string spit” Pokemon. Another twoPokemon from the Gen 7 gamesthat made the list were Araquanid and Dewpider. Despite both of these names being similar to “arachnid” and “spider,” again these Pokemon only have six legs. Galvantula is listed as the “Elespider” Pokemon, and though it has a spider-like design, Galvantula only has four legs.
Pokemon designs have often been a point of discussion for fans. Sometimes, as in the case of the “spider” Pokemon, things just fail to make sense. For years fans have wondered how Pokemon like Charizard do not have the dragon type, even when it looks like a dragon, or how some Pokemon that have been in theseries for years have still not yet had an evolution. While there were no new accurate spider Pokemon inPokemon Legends: Arceus, fans can still hold out hope for one in the future.
