Summary

Pokemon Scarlet and Violetadded many new powerful critters to the roster, bringing the total to over one thousand, and setting a high bar to clear forPokemonGen 10 games in various areas. There are a lot of expectations placed on Gen 10 after the launch issues ofPokemon Scarlet and Violet, so not only do the next mainline games need to deliver where Gen 9 couldn’t, but also try and surpass their predecessor’s biggest milestones. There was a lot of hype going intoPokemon Scarlet and Violetdue to the real-world connection between Spain and France, respectively Gen 9 and Gen 6’s regions, meaning Mega Evolutions could make an appearance. They didn’t, andPokemonGen 10 can kill two birds with one stone by giving new evolutions to two specific critters.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s cross-gen evolutionsare some of the best the series has ever seen, both in terms of design and inspiration and in terms of actual gameplay, but Gen 10 can try and one-up them with a unique idea. One of the core principles of Mega Evolutions, which is also the reason they were such a popular gimmick, is that they were only available for a small set of Pokemon and granted them the ability to evolve even past regular three-stage limits. The common thought that followed was that Pokemon that got a Mega Evolution would never evolve again in future games, but Gen 10 can change this.

Why Gen 10 Should Break Pokemon’s Mega Evolution Tradition

Pokemon Gen 10 Should Give Pinsir and Heracross a Cross-Gen Evolution

Giving new evolutions to all Pokemon that got Megas is not feasible without drastically breaking away from big traditions, such as the third stage being the last in all cases. However, not all critters that Mega Evolved in Gen 6 were third-stage mons. In fact,PokemonGen 10 gamescould give Pinsir an evolution, and follow it up with a cross-gen evolution for Heracross as well.

These were both Pokemon that were givenMega Evolutions in Gen 6, and since then, they were assumed to never be able to evolve regularly. There have admittedly been no additional regular evolutions for any of the critters that got a Mega in Gen 6 games, but that doesn’t mean it will always be like this - especially with Megas likely not coming back in the future. As such, there are some Pokemon that need a cross-gen evolution in Gen 10 to become more valuable and popular, and Pinsir and Heracross are two of them.

Pokemon Gen 10 Games Can Kill Two Birds With One Stone With Pinsir and Heracross Evolutions

Why Pinsir and Heracross Deserve New Evolutions in Pokemon Gen 10

Bug-type Pokemon are already inherently at a disadvantage in the current meta due to how ineffective the type is in battle, and Pokemon like Pinsir and Heracross can only at times shine inPokemonGen 1 playthroughsfor the former, or Gen 2 for the latter. Generally speaking, there are many better Pokemon out there, and that’s a big reason why Pinsir and Heracross could get some justice with new evolutions in Gen 10. This would also break the taboo that pocket monsters with Megas can’t evolve, and it would also be a good way to try and top cross-gen evolutions from Gen 9 games.

Both Mega Pinsir and Mega Heracross were quite popular in Gen 6, but even then, there were better picks for Megas. Now that this gimmick has seemingly been sunset entirely after the Gen 3 remakes, it’s a great time to give Pokemon like Pinsir and Heracross new tools in the form of cross-gen evolutions, especially considering that their current base stat total, types, and moves don’t really help them carve a niche for themselves.Pokemon Scarlet and Violetgave Magmar and Electabuzz Follow Meas a move, which alone made them much better picks in competitive VGC, so new evolutions for Pinsir and Heracross can at the very least achieve something similar.
