The spooky fun won’t end on Halloween night for Latin AmericanPokemon GOplayers, as Niantic has announced events celebrating Day of the Dead on November 1 and 2.
The Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos, is a holiday originating from Mexico that takes place on the first two days of Novembercelebrating the memory of friendsand family members who have passed away. According to Mexican tradition, November 1-2 is the time of year when the veil that separates the physical world from the spirit realm is at its weakest, allowing spirits to freely pass into the land of the living.

It seems the same otherworldly rules apply to Ghost-type Pokemon, as trainers will have an easier time encountering them and a few other types from Sunday, November 1 at 10:00 a.m. to Monday, November 2, at 11:59 p.m. local time. Trainers can expect to encounter Litwick and Duskull at a higher rate during this time.Incense will also be more effective at attracting Ghost and Dark-types, including Gastly, Misdreavus, Drifloon, Duskull, Shuppet, Litwick, and Absol. The event will only be available to players living in Latin America.
Ghosts are not the only Pokemon that will appear more frequently. A fewGrass-type Pokemonwill also appear more often as well, including Sunflora, Roselia, and Cacnea. The Ground-type Cubone will also be easier to encounter. These Pokemon fit into the theme of Day of the Dead as Grass-types reference the tradition of families visiting cemeteries to leave flowers, such as roses, sunflowers, and cacti for their loved ones.
It is also tradition to make a special kind of bread for Day of the Dead called pan de muerto. The top piece of this bread is shaped into pieces that resemble crossbones. This is not the first time that Niantic has referenced food inPokemon GO, as the developer recently announced apartnership with Grubhub to catch rare types of Pokemon.
Trainers will also have access to exclusive Day of the Dead-themed Field Research tasks to encounter Pokemon such as Marowak, Alolan Marowak, Murkrow, and Duskull. Niantic will make a special box available in thePokemon GOshop that will feature Incense, Poffins, and remote raid passes.
WithPokemon GO’s Halloween eventsrunning through November 3, and the addition of the new Day of the Dead events, trainers have a lot to look forward to in the next few weeks.
