APokemon GOplayer has been assigned a Pidgeot weighing 0kg as part of a new featurethat extends height and weight parameters of Pokemon in the mobile game. These stats forPokemon are normally randomly generated, but a glitch somehow gave one player a Pidgeot with no mass.
The mainline series of Pokemon usually includes randomly generated heights and weights for all Pokemon a player can catch. In terms of size, the differences in the game are sometimes noticeable, and certain moves can inflict more or less damage depending on how heavy a Pokemon is.Niantic’s most recent update toPokemon GOadded more height and weight splits to Pokemon in the game: double extra small (XXS) and double extra large (XXL). These new sizes also have weight banners indicating the lightest and heaviest ever caught, and the update has been applied to all Pokemon a trainer currently has. But as one person found, the randomly generated weight given to a Pokemon may not always make sense.

Redditor hynesight20_20 shared a screenshot of a Pidgeot they caught in 2016 that has no mass. Even applying the logic of birds possessing hollow bones, having 0kg weight assigned to a bird as large as Pidgeot inPokemon GOis comical. As one commenter stated, the Pidgeot weighs less than a Gastly, which is literally just a ball of gas. Another person also noticed that despite being 0kg, the Pidgeot also missed out on the XXS tag.
SincePokemon GOlaunched, all Pokemon were assigned sizes and weights within the parameters of the Pokedex entries from the main games. Only as recently as 2021 has Niantic started to experiment with having Pokemon with visibly different sizes show up in the game, starting withPumpkaboo during that year’s Halloween event. For this latest foray into expanded Pokemon sizes, Poochyena, Mightyena, and Mawile catch screens will have animations celebrating their size on either side of the size spectrum. They will also have visibly different sizes, especially if standing next to their trainer as a buddy.
Niantic is making an attempt to have more Pokemon that have been in the game for some time feel more unique by giving them size variety. It also gives trainers a new thing to chase after since there are new XXS and XXL medals to rank up. But as players have seen withElite Raids inPokemon Goand the surprise Zorua release, Niantic sometimes stumbles a bit when trying to introduce quirky additions to the game. This implementation still has some fine-tuning to do to prevent more weightless birds from showing up in the game.
Pokemon GOis now available for Android and iOS devices.
