Summary
Pokemon Scarlet and VioletTeal Mask DLC players are starting to run into a frustrating bug associated with battling non-story trainers, ultimately impacting end game content. After months of teasing,Pokemon Scarlet and Violetfinally got its first of two planned expansions this past week asThe Teal Mask brings players to a mysterious land of Kitakamion a field trip from the Paldean academy.
In addition to a full campaign to run through,The Teal Mask features a variety of new and returning Pokemonfor players to catch. In addition to classics like Ekans, Vulpix, and Munchlax, The Teal Mask introduces a number of new creatures as well including the unique legendary grass type Ogerpon, and the Loyal Three who are made up of Munkidori, Okidogi, and Fezandipiti. While the end game typically revolves around catching and organizing a strong team, some players have begun to run into a bug which essentially halts any and all progress also preventing completion of a side quest related to the Ogre Clan.

Recently, a couple ofPokemon Scarlet and Violetdataminers known as Sibuna_Switch and mattyoukhana reported a bug that can impact some of the end game content players will interact with after The Teal Mask campaign as finished. Responding to players who were suddenly unable to have non-story trainer battles count, Sibuna_Switch confirmed thatScarlet and Violethad a hard cap of saving 300 non-story trainers being defeated by the player and anything over that would not be saved. Players can continue to battle beyond 300, but it seems the game won’t remember it, which was ultimately fine for the main game, but with additional trainers in the DLC, this has now become a bigger problem.
Beyond theTeal Mask campaign, players will have more things to do including a side quest to defeat the Ogre Clan, powerful trainers spread throughout Kitagami that offer players a good amount of XP and money for winning. Unfortunately, the trainer record storage hard cap is now preventing any players who have hit that magic 300 number from finishing this side mission and obtaining the rewards associated with it. For now, there are no workarounds, requiring a proper update from Game Freak, though for most players, it may be wise to avoid optional battles and prioritize specific ones to prevent reaching the ceiling before The Teal Mask end game.
Thankfully, Teal Mask players do have plenty of other things to keep them busy outside of battling the Kitagami Ogre Clan. Oneside activity that has seemingly impressed Teal Mask players is Ogre Oustin’which has players popping balloons and depositing berries. The mini-game offers plenty of rewards including a unique shiny variant of Munchlax for those who manage to unlock and beat hard mode.
