Shooter games have a lot of shooting, obviously, but players need markers to know whether they are hitting their targets or not. Some shooter games have hit-markersthat denote a successful shot, while some games simply show a blood splatter every time a shot connects with another character.PlayerUnknown’s Battlegroundsuses this system, with each successful shot inPUBGbeing indicated by blood coming off the target. These blood-splatter effects are important for players to know whether they are hitting their targets from long ranges, andPUBGCorp. tried to improve these effects back in December to make things easier for players.
Sadly, most of the community disagreed with the new changes. Fortunately, the company acted quickly and issued a hotfix to improve the blood effects once again, but the community is still unhappy with the changes.PUBG Corp.stated that it would keep working on improving the effects until it feels perfect for players.Blood effects have been a big part ofPUBG, be it on consoles, PC, or mobile, the games have distinct blood effects to give players information regarding their aim.

In January, the company shared a detailed breakdown of all the blood effect changes the company has made, and what’s to come in the future. “After roll-out, we came across a few concerns thanks in part to community reporting,” read thePUBGCorp. post. “One of the main points being that the new blood effect was harder to see than before. After the blood effect update, it was reduced in size and visibility, making it difficult to see at distances or unclear when characters were in the shadows. We deployed a hotfix on December 23rd to increase the size and visibility of the new blood effect and to fix the issue with incorrect blood colors displaying under various lighting conditions. Even with the hotfix, there is still feedback from the players that the visibility of the blood effect is still not clear compared to the original version.”
The developer added that it would be looking forward to improving the overall quality of the blood effects in the game by adjusting the color of the blood effect, the overall texture of the effect, and the rate at which the effect occurs. The developer shared a video to show some of the blood effect changes that are being worked on and these changes show how blood effects might look at different distances.PUBG Mobiledoes blood effectsmuch better in comparison, but obviously, those effects would look unrealistic or cartoonish on powerful platforms like PC and consoles, so it remains to be seen how the company incorporates blood effects into the game that look realistic while at the same time clearly convey information to players.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegroundsis out now for iOS, Android, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
