In a new video clip, a player has somehow made John Marston save himself from hitting the ground after a fall from his horse inRed Dead Redemption 2.Red Dead Redemption 2features one of the most sprawling and detailed open worlds ever created in gaming. Even years after the game’s launch, players are still captivated by its western setting and everything it has to offer. Exploring the lands usually requires the use of a horse and sometimes the player makes mistakes, but this video clip shows a miraculous save after not being able to slow down their horse.
Red Dead Redemption 2features all kinds of customization for horses to make them unique. Players can even brush their horse and bond with it. But when it’s time to take off into the land, the player is in control, and despite some horses handling better than others, the act ofhorse riding inRed Dead Redemption 2is realistic. What’s not realistic, and barely believable in the game itself, is how a player manages to crash into something, get knocked off, and somehow avoids face planting on the ground.

In the video clip posted to Reddit by user persekarvatrimmeri on September 11,theRed Dead Redemption 2playermanages to capture what could be a once-in-a-lifetime moment in the game. In the video, the player takes off on a horse, full-speed, towards a brown fence and tries to dismount before hitting the barrier. Just as the horse makes impact with the fence, and during the dismount animation, John is sent flying, which is normal in the game. What’s not normal is that John flips sideways over the fence and lands on his feet.
The realistic design choices inRed Dead Redemption 2have been both praised and criticized, with some players feeling the game is one of the most realistic games ever made with a lot ofRed Dead Redemption 2’s locations being inspired by real places, while others feel the realism slows the pace of the game. Either way, things came together perfectly for this moment, and it seems to only be possible if John is at a very specific frame during his dismount animation as the horse collides with the fence. This version of the game is also the PC version.
It is a testament to how much detail and care developer Rockstar Games put into the game that players are still discovering new things about it in 2022. WhileRockstar has finally said goodbye toRed Dead Redemption 2to focus onGrand Theft Auto 6, players are still enjoying roaming around the American West.
