The incredible success ofGrand Theft Auto Onlinecannot be understated, with it finding such popularity due to its consistent content updates over the year. With a past full of special events to celebrate certain occasions, fans were both surprised and disappointed to discover that Rockstar had forgotten the seven-year anniversary ofGTA Online.
WithGTA Onlineupdates for the Summer monthsfull of small details and little things for players to strive for, it seems odd that Rockstar would do absolutely nothing for the anniversary of the game. Players likely expected some new cars or weapons, or at the very least a decent bit of free money to use within the game however they wish. Instead,Grand Theft Auto Onlineplayers were met with a day like any other for the seventh anniversary.

Considering that not even a double XP weekend or a fix forGTA Online’s invisible hoverbikeshas released, fans ofGTA Onlinewere quick to take to the game’s subreddit and voice their confusion. One such reddit user, named captainvideoblaster, posted a meme from the showTwo and a Half Men. Essentially just poking fun at the way Rockstar forgot about the special day, the post’s top comment from Peak_Idiocy highlights a great touch by the meme maker, as its creator made sure to not make Rockstar talk.
A silent Rockstar is likely a reference to how little the developer has said about bothGTA Online’s anniversary andthe far-off sequelGTA 6. The notoriously tight-lipped studio has kept fans in the dark for some time now, and they are showing no plans to change up their approach anytime soon. Still, completely forgetting an impressive and important milestone like a mode’s seventh anniversary is undeniably weird. PerhapsGTA Online’s delayed release back whenGTA 5first dropped even threw off Rockstar and made them forget.
While players getting nothing for sticking with the game for seven years is disappointing, Rockstar does seem to be somewhat busy. Likely deep into development of the much-awaitedGrand Theft Auto 6, it makes sense for the studio to be less focused on updating a far older game. Beyond that, Rockstar has been updating its more recent title as of late,Red Dead Redemption 2. WithRed Dead Onlineseeing new content like animal transformations andlegendary moose hunts added, at leastRed Deadfans are getting rewarded for their time.
Red Dead Onlinecould be getting Undead Nightmarecontent soon as well, likely for Halloween. WithGTA 6in development and a newer game to update withRed Dead Redemption 2, hopefullyGTA Onlineplayers being forgotten about does not become a more regular occurrence.
GTA Onlineis available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and will release on PS5 and Xbox Series X in 2021.
