The upcoming sequel toRogue Legacy, a standout indie rogue-lite from 2013, was initially released into early access back in August 2020, with a final release promised sometime in the future. Developer Cellar Door Games has now announced thatRogue Legacy 2is ready to release version 1.0, more than two years after theRogue Legacysequel was revealed.
While fans have been waiting since 2020 forRogue Legacy 2to hit 1.0, Cellar Door Games has been working since 2018 to bring this sequel to life. It’s a long time coming for both the studio and fans.

According to Cellar Door Games,Rogue Legacy 2will release on April 28th, 2022 for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Before release, players can also still purchase the title in early access and dive into what the developer has made available to early adopters since the latest update.
Additionally, the originalRogue Legacywill be free on Epic Games Storeleading up to the official launch of the sequel. So, there is already a large amount of content for players to dive into right now, as they wait for version 1.0 to finally release in full.
While the new game promises to bring new enemies, locations, and bosses to theRogue Legacyseries, this sequel comes with some huge improvements on top of what fans already expect. Cellar Door Games boasts ametroidvania-style progression system, with items that will unlock deeper secrets inRogue Legacy 2’s castle setting.
Additionally, this title won’t end at the credits, as New Game Pluses will continue to expand on the lore and narrative that leads from the original title into this newest world. If the developer is to be believed, this sequel will be much larger and deeper than the previous title.
For players looking for anew roguelike title, or in this case rogue-lite, the originalRogue Legacyis an impressive showcase of procedurally generated levels. However, the permanent progression and build customization does lean it closer to titles likeHadesorReturnal, rather thanDead CellsorBinding of Isaac. With the original title becoming free for players on the Epic Games Store, now is a great time to test out Cellar Door Games' indie darling and prepare for the upcoming release ofRogue Legacy 2.
