Tez2 is a known name in theRockstar/Red Dead/Grand Theft Autocommunity. While everything not directly from the company should be taken with a grain of salt, Tez2 is more reliable than some anonymous user on the internet. They’ve reportedly spoken to a reliable source on Rockstar plans, and their source states that remasters ofGrand Theft Auto 4andRed Dead Redemption 1were planned a few years ago. However, at some point and for unspecified reasons, Rockstar is said to have scrapped these plans.
It’s not clear if this is speculation on Tez2 or their source’s behalf, but they speculate that thereception to theGrand Theft Auto Trilogy Definitive Editionmay have impacted this decision. As many know, this collection remastered Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City, and San Andreas, but unfortunately, they came with serious technical issues. Several patches have been released so far, yet it remains a stain on Rockstar’s portfolio.
Obviously, many fans are upset by this news.Red Dead Redemptionis a bonafide classic, and remastering it closer to the scale ofRed Dead Redemption 2sounds like an instant success. The same could be said ofGrand Theft Auto 4. However, it should be noted that Rockstar has a reputation for going slow and steady for its games. This hasn’t prevented crunch in the past, but pastdevelopment reports suggest thatGrand Theft Auto 6is avoiding crunch, which is good.
It does remain to be seen how future Rockstar remasters shake out.Take-Two Interactive, its parent company, is said to have several remasterslined up for the next few years, and many have assumed it would beRDR1at least. Now, however, it could be from other companies under the Take-Two banner.
