The post goes on to state that travel and access to this island have been heavily restricted.

While this might seem like an innocuous info dump about the new map’s lore, players are right to suspect that Activision might be leaving breadcrumbs to follow. Previous rumors regarding the next mainlineCall of Dutygame have already suggested that thefuture game will possibly be set during the Gulf Warconflicts. And a second rumor regarding theCall of Duty Zombiestimeline also lends some credence to this rumor. While this is not an outright confirmation, the timeline of Ashika Island outlined in the blog post lines up quite well.

If the rumors are to be believed then Treyarch will be breaking new ground by attempting to create a game so close to the current timeframe of the world. Compared to the settings ofBlack OpsandModern Warfaretitles, the Gulf War conflicts have remained relatively untouched by Activision. But fans should beware and not believe any rumors until the official confirmation arrives.
