Disney Plus has a very exciting line-up of Marvel television shows slated for 2022, including thecurrently airingMoon KnightandMs. Marvel, premiering in June. One of the more unique shows on the way isShe-Hulk, which has garnered a lot of excitement and interest despite no announced release date.
She-HulkstarsOrphan Blacklead Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters, a lawyer in Los Angeles who becomes the titular She-Hulk. It will also star Ginger Gonzaga as Jennifer’s best friend, Jameela Jamil as Titania, and Renee Elise Goldsberry as Amelia, with Tim Rothreturning as Emil Blonsky/Abominationand Mark Ruffalo returning as the Hulk/Bruce Banner. It has also been confirmed that other MCU characters will be making surprise appearances throughout the season.

Described as a half hour legal comedy,She-Hulkis set to be very different from the other MCU series so far. Jessica Gao, award-winning writer ofRick and MortyandSilicon Valley, is head writer on the series, so it will likely lean more heavily into comedy than the other shows. Season one ofShe-Hulkwill beten episodes that are thirty minutes each, similar to a sitcom set up. There are some greatShe-Hulkstorylines from Marvel Comics that could be adapted into some of these episodes.
She-Hulk’s Origin Story
Since She-Hulk is a new addition to the MCU, it would make sense for her origin story to be adapted into the television series. In the comics, Jennifer Walters is a successful defense lawyer in Los Angeles, who happens to be the cousin of the Hulk, Bruce Banner. While Bruce is visiting her, she is shot by the henchman of a crime boss, Nicholas Trask, because she was defending a gangster in court who had been double-crossed by him. In a desperate attempt to save her, Bruce gives some of his own blood to Jennifer for a blood transfusion. When Trask attempts to kill her a second time, the gamma radiation in the transfused blood is activated, and Jennifertransforms into a “She-Hulk.” Like the original Hulk, she is large, green, and has superhuman strength, but Jennifer is able to maintain her full intelligence and much of her emotional control.
The Trial of She-Hulk
In one storyline, Jennifer tries to warn the Avenger Hawkeye about his impending death. Due to this, she gets arrested by the Time Variance Authority fortrying to alter the time stream. They threaten to erase her from history if she loses her case. The trial ends up being full of various people from Jennifer’s life, including those who are dead, who have been brought in from different points in her history. Since the TVA have been introduced to the MCU through 2021’sLoki, this storyline would seem to be a natural choice for adaptation.She-Hulkcould even bring inOwen Wilson’s Mobius M. Mobius, who plays a part in the storyline in the comics.
She-Hulk Defends Eros
One memorable She-Hulk storyline involves the Eternal, Eros, who has the power to stimulate pleasure centres in the brain.Jennifer is called in to defend himwhen he is accused of sexual assault by using his powers to seduce a married woman. As Eros starts to use his powers to influence the witnesses, Jennifer starts to wonder if he had used his powers on her–specifically, to influence her when they slept together in the past. With the trial quickly devolving, Eros' father teleports him to his home planet of Titan to try and clear his name, but brings in Jennifer yet again as the prosecuting attorney. Eros, played by Harry Styles,was recently introduced to the MCUat the end ofEternals. AShe-Hulkepisode could be a fun way to help fans get to know the character.
She-Hulk vs Titania
Jameela Jamil will be playing Titania, who is She-Hulk’s arch-nemesis in the comics. Born Mary MacPherron, she was small and scrawny, bullied to the point she grew resentful and seeked vengeance. A series of events causes her to go through cellular augmentation through radiationat the hands of Doctor Doom, causing her to become larger and more muscular, with super strength, stamina, and resistance to injury, She eventually gets the better of She-Hulk in a fight while working for Doom, kicking off a longstanding rivalry between the two of them. While likely she will be a recurring character inShe-Hulk, one storyline featuring Titania that would particularly suit the show’s format is that of Jennifer at the Supreme Court. In that storyline, Jennifer is arguing against the Mutant Registration Act in front of the American Supreme Court. However, she gets distracted by Titania, who keeps showing up outside the courtroom demanding to fight She-Hulk.
She-Hulk Defends Spider-Man
In a storyline entitled “Web of Lies,” She-Hulk finds herself defending Spider-Man in court.Spider-Man is suing J. Jonah Jamesonfor libel due to Jameson’s history of spreading lies about him in the Daily Bugle. Complications ensue when Spider-Man has to appear in court, as he has to be able to prove he is the real Spider-Man without compromising his identity as Peter Parker. Spider-Man is a massively beloved character in the MCU, and it would be amazing to bring him into one of the television series. However, the events ofSpider-Man: No Way Homecould make this storyline difficult.
