As the Dragonborn travels across the plains ofSkyrim, they will often find themselves approached by the game’s courier, and sometimes his presence makes it seem like the messenger NPC is unable to “read the room,” as it were. As one of thehighest-grossing video games in recent history, if not of all time, the fifth entry in Bethesda’s influentialElder Scrollsseries continues to enjoy a rather lengthy shelf life, even though the epic 2011 RPG has been around for more than 11 years at this point.

But that’s okay. There areso many things to do inSkyrim, even if that’s just wandering around the beautiful landscape, that players are frequently discovering something they didn’t know existed. It also helps that there is a nice mix of characters that fill the towns and settlements of the province. One of these residents has become quite popular among the community over the years, but not always for the right reasons.

In a recent post on Reddit, user somboe had an important moment inSkyriminterrupted by the courier. A brief clip from their playthrough shows the dedicated letter-carrier approaching as the player is busy receiving an initiation into the Companions. As Kodlak Whitemane gives the impassioned speech that welcomes the Dragonborn into their “mortal fold,” somboe is forced to turn around as the game’s messenger approaches. Tending to their duty, the NPC, in typical fashion, announces to the player they have a letter for them, all while Kodlak continues talking, which is highly inappropriate on the courier’s part.

For those who haven’t played the game, the Companions is just one of manyjoinable factions inSkyrim. It gives the hero of the land the opportunity to hone their combat skills outside the main quest, while also becoming affiliated with this band of noble warriors. To have such an important speech interrupted because of a letter is just plain rude, but is one of many examples of the NPC making an appearance at a time when it’s not really warranted, even if his life is in danger.

At the very least, it does showhow dedicatedSkyrim’s courier really is. His commitment to his role, in which he will seek out the Dragonborn wherever they may be, is admirable in many ways. However, the game evidently failed to take into account the player being rather busy doing other things, and the sudden appearance of a letter carrier is something that can usually wait for a more suitable time.

Skyrimis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
