Exploding with popularity when it first released, the hype forSons of the Foresthas eased off now, but that doesn’t mean people aren’t still playing it, and developer Endnight Games has put out update number two, which comes with plenty of changes. Whether fans are more into AAA titles or prefer something from the indie scene, right now there’sa lot to be excited about when it comes to horror gaming, and the follow-up toThe Forestis just one way the genre is being kept in good standing.
When Endnight launched the sequel in February,Sons of the Forestwas a smash hit on Steam, becoming a top seller on the Valve-owned platform, even beating out the likes ofHogwarts Legacyand the Steam Deck. Even before it came out, it was the most wishlisted title on the PC gaming client, which briefly put it ahead ofStarfield. Of course, being an indie game, it couldn’t keep up this pace for too long, but of course the studio continues to update the game, especially as it’s still in early access.

The second major patch forSons of the Foresthas been rolling out recently, and there are a number of changes and fixes that have been implemented. First and foremost, Endnight has now added a new cave system, a new surveillance room, additional story elements, a new “demon boss,” and more. In terms of bug squashing, this latest update has patched a laundry list’s worth of glitches, such as fixing the GPS locator, addressing an issue in which the player could become stuck in “a bad state” when equipping items, plus plenty of other issues that have been looked over. There are also some balance tweaks that have been implented as well, such as increasing the burn time on campfires.
It wasn’t long after the game came out thatSons of the Forestreceived its first significant update. As mentioned above, the title is still in development, so the studio has a vested interest in fixing as many bugs as possible before the full release. One thing that is being actively worked on is the usefulness of Kelvin.
Almost immediately after releasing,Sons of the Forestfans fell in love with Kelvin, who essentially became the star of the show. For those who haven’t played the game yet, he is a mute and brain-damaged NPC who’s tasked with helping the player by gathering wood and performing other duties. While he has some notable blunders, his mishaps are what was so endearing for fans, but there’s a good chance that he’ll be a lot more competent as more updates come out, which some will see as a bit of a shame.
