Summary

A weird glitch inStardew Valleyhas left one player with an interesting livestock problem, as their farm animals have somehow transformed into different versions of one of Pelican Town’s residents, Kent. Based on reactions, this particularStardew Valleyglitch seems very rare and only affects pigs and brown cows.

Kent is a character who joinsStardew Valley’s roster in the second year. A former soldier who had been serving the military in the ongoing war with the Gotoro Empire,Kent’s PTSD inStardew Valleybrings an air of distant dread to the generally lighthearted game.

As seen in the gameplay video posted to Reddit by user InitiativeFluid9082, both large and small versions of Kent started wandering around their farm, seemingly taking over the sprites that would normally displayStardew Valleyfarm animals. Probably the most eye-catching is the one animal — confirmed by the player to be a pig after they saw it dig up a truffle — on the right side of the screen, which alternates quickly between showing different quarters of the portrait of Kent that normally appears when a player engages him in conversation. However, three other adult brown cows can also be seen alternating between their normal appearance, four diminutive versions of Kent that display walking animations as the cows move around, or a combination of the two. While the large Kent never transforms back into a pig, the white cow and the brown calf shown in the video seem to be completely unaffected by the glitch.

What’s Making Stardew Valley Animals Turn Into Kent?

While some fans' thoughts drifted towards the glitch being caused by usingStardew Valleymods, the player shot down those suspicions, stating that they do not use any mods and that it happened after they “literally just opened the game for the first time in forever” on their Nintendo Switch. With that in mind, the consensus seems to be that it’s just some sort of sprite reference error, which may be caused by an older save file not being compatible with the current build of the game. While oneStardew Valleyfan reportedly had a similar problem with farm animals appearing as Maru after naming a cow after her, the player who posted the video clarified that can’t be the case here, as they just used the default names for animals suggested by the game.

While multiple people are calling this their favorite glitch in the game, it’s not the only one that has involved Kent. In 2022, one player reported and shared an image of aghost Kent inStardew Valley, with four semi-transparent versions of Kent’s portrait hovering over their silo.
