M Science is a research and analytics firm, driven by data. It recently reported on the launch sale ofSuper Mario 3D All-Starscompared it to other Switch titles. The data is designed to only look at the first four days after launch, and the results show that3D All-Starsis behind onlyNew Horizons, while beating out the likes ofBreath of the WildandMarioOdyssey. And even asSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatebecame the fastest-selling Switch gamewhen it launched,3D All-Starshas outpaced it by 70%.

A part of the success of the game is likely attributed toSuper Mario 3D All-Stars’limited availability,as the game will only be sold through March 2021. The simple premise of supply and demand could be helping to spike the numbers a bit, as Mario fans and Nintendo collection enthusiasts likely don’t want to miss out on the game completely.

The sales data is not overly surprising, as3D All-Starshas been sold outmultiple times in various regions and retailers. Even before this report was presented, the evidence was pointing to the fact that the game was selling very well. It will be very interesting to see how the game stacks up against the likes of the 22 million-plus units sold ofAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsor 18 million-plus copies ofSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate. With the holiday period arriving, and the idea that the game will not be available for much longer,3D All-Starscould be one of the higher selling games over the next few months.

Nintendo’s strategy to sellSuper Mario 3D All-Starsas a limited run is not normal for the company. The reasoning for this choice is not known yet, and perhaps it will always remain a mystery. But it is possible that Nintendo will sell the collection again at some point, especially after the sales success.
