This article will contain SPOILERS for the Tekken seriesThe latestTekken 8playablecharacter has been revealed as the dreaded Devil Jin. After spending much of the previous game on the sidelines, Jin Kazama is finally stepping back into the role of the main protagonist inTekken 8tochallenge his father Kazuya Mishimain one final battle to determine the fate of the world. While Kazuya seems to have the full might of the G Corporation in his corner, Jin has his own not-so-secret weapon to help tip the scales for the rest of humanity: the Devil Gene.
For those just getting into the sprawlingTekkenstoryline, the Devil Gene is a supernatural genetic abnormality spread throughout the Mishima bloodline. It grants the bearerpowerful demonic abilities through a Devil form, with Jin’s first manifesting after he was betrayed by his grandfather Heihachi Mishima at the end of his debut inTekken 3. However, Devil Jin wouldn’t become a playable character untilTekken 5, which saw Jin fully succumb to the Devil Gene. Devil Jin would appear in every mainlineTekkenentry since, as well as the spin-offTekken Tag Tournament 2and theTekken: Bloodlineanime.

While Jin seeks redemption for his past misdeeds, it seems his sinister Devil Jin persona is still alive within him, as shown in the latestTekken 8character reveal trailer on the official Bandai Namco Entertainment America YouTube channel. In it, Devil Jin emerges to battle his non-demon self, showing off his supernaturally charged blows and powerful Inferno laser. He is then confronted by his returning mother Jun Kazama, who attempts to reach out to her son within the “Black Wings of Ruin.” This ultimately fails, and Devil Jin unleashes his devastating Special Move, where he traps his victim in demonic chains and slices them with an energy blade.
Devil Jin is just the latest in a series ofTekken 8character reveals, which have been giving eager players a sneak preview of the game’s packed roster of returningTekkencharacters and new fighters. Of course, Jin’s father Kazuya has his own Devil form, which was shown in earlierTekken 8trailers with a revamped design that demonstrates the former anti-hero at the peak of his powers.
A clash between Devil Jin and Devil Kazuya seems inevitable, andTekken 8has just shown why the former will be a force to be reckoned with in the latest chapter of theepic Mishima family rivalry. However, one of the dangers of the Devil form lies in it corrupting its user, and Devil Jin is shown letting out a few sinister chuckles and bloodthirsty taunts throughout his reveal trailer. This may complicate Jin’s efforts to turn over a new leaf and become a hero once more inTekken 8, but his twisted Devil persona may be the world’s last hope against the evil Kazuya.
