After a rather lengthy wait,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2fans finally have a reason to return to the game thanks to its latest Season of fresh new content. While the last fewModern Warfare 2Seasons have been a little disappointing, Season 3 finally brings a handful of new 6v6 maps to the game, and for the most part, they’re pretty good. One of the highlights ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2Season 3is a map called Black Gold, which brings back a feature not seen since 2019’sModern Warfare: night-vision maps.

Available from launch,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s night-vision mapsdropped players onto one of the game’s iconic 6v6 maps in the dead of night. Though the maps have some sources of light, players will need to mostly rely on their night-vision goggles to see the environment and detect targets. Each player’s primary weapon is automatically fitted with a laser sight as well, making it easier to aim at targets, but also giving away their position.Modern Warfare’s night-vision maps weren’t every fan’s cup of tea, but they did provide a new experience for seasonedCall of Dutyplayers, and now that experience has returned withModern Warfare 2- though fans are divided on whether Infinity Ward should keep adding new night maps to the game.

The Argument For More Night Maps In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

The biggest argument for more night maps inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2is that they add something incredibly unique to the usualCall of Dutyexperience. WhileCall of Dutystill offers some of the best smaller-scale gunplay in the industry, it isn’t the only military shooter on the market, but it is one of the only ones to have a night-vision mode. By just tweaking a few mechanics and settings,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2is able to deliver a wholly unique experience, and one that feels surprisingly different from the standardCall of Dutygameplay formula.

Adding more night maps toCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2also paves the way for more experimental game types in the future. Infinity Ward took a chance when developingModern Warfare’s night maps, and it took another leap bringing them toModern Warfare 2. If fan reception surrounding these maps is positive, then it could lead to some more unique maps and modes in the future, such as anInfected game mode set on a night-vision map.

The Argument Against More Night Maps In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s night-vision maps just aren’t for everyone, there’s no way to get around that. While some love the more tactical nature of these maps, some just simply prefer the standard fast-pacedCall of Duty6v6 formula, and at the end of the day, Infinity Ward might be better off spending its time creating new, normal 6v6 maps, which some fans still argue that the game doesn’t have enough of.

Modern Warfare 2’s night-vision maps can also severely break the flow of the standard map rotation. With Black Gold currently being part of the main map rotation, players are left at the mercy of RNG to determine whether they’ll be forced to play the map. For those that really aren’t fans of Black Gold, it can be irritating to see it innormal map rotation, and be forced to either play a whole match or drop out and start the process of finding a match all over again. At the bare minimum, if Infinity Ward was to add more night-vision maps toModern Warfare 2, it should be restricted to its own playlist.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
