Amazon Gaming’s first MMONew Worldhas finally been released, taking players to the island of Aeternium in one of themost ambitious games of the genreto date. Not all players have had the same experience inNew World, though, as many have reported a number of issues with the game weeks after its launch.

The launch of an MMO is not an easy task – virtually every MMO ever made had server issues during a rocky launch. Many of the problems withNew Worldaren’t limited to server-side issues, though, as players have found a number of things that need to be fixed in the game itself.
8Crashing High-End GPUs
On launch,New Worldwas causing major problemsfor some users with high-end graphics cards. It was a major issue in the beta release of the game, where players with an EVGA RTX 3090 GPU saw their cards crashing, rendering them useless.
After the game’s official release on September 28, though, the game reportedly still has this problem. PowerGPU said many of its users had reported dead GPUs after playingNew World, and the EVGA RTX 3090 isn’t the only GPU affected – the Gigabyte RTX 3080 Ti was also now a common victim.

7Long Queues To Play The Game
New Worldis hosted on servers run by Amazon, which also runs a large server network: the AWS web hosting service. Players anticipated the game having few to no issues with queue times as Amazon theoretically had as many servers as necessary at the ready.
Thisproved to not be true, and players even a week later are finding themselves trapped in long queue times on popular servers. It’s a problem that has affected almost every MMO launch, andNew Worldwasn’t safe from this curse after all.

6Notifications For Wars Not Going Away
Some of the most irritating problems with video games are related to the UI. When a war is going to happen inNew Worldplayers get a notification alerting them to join an army if they want to participate.

Many players have found that simply declining this objective or closing the notification doesn’t stop it from appearing again. It’s a problem that gets particularly annoying for players foraging or completing other tasks nearby, as it willkeep popping up over and overagain, taking up screen space as well.
5Streamer-Caused Faction Imbalances
Faction imbalances caused by thepresence of a major streameron a server are a relatively new problem for MMOs.World of Warcrafthas several servers that gained popularity because of the presence of a few major streamers in that world, and so far,New Worldis heading in a similar direction.
It’s a problem that mostly affects players who chose their server before a major streamer joined, as their home server is now plagued with imbalances and sudden queue times.

4No Minimap (And Map View Issues)
ManyMMOs in recent years have had the option to turn off the minimap entirely, allowing for a more immersive experience in the world. With games likeThe Elder Scrolls Online, the minimap is replaced with a compass and a zone map that can be accessed and used easily.
New Worldalso has no minimap, offering a compass instead similar toESO. Where the two games differ is in how functional the overworld map is. For example, when in a town, players have found that viewing theirworld map doesn’t zoomon their location instead showing a general overview of the larger area – navigation of the map is unintuitive in general.

3Server Reliability And Capacity
A major problem that seems to plague almost every MMO is the reliability of servers, especially at launch. Sometimes the servers will go down or experience huge slowdowns that affect players currently in the game –New Worldhas seen a few problems like this in its first week.

Another problem with theNew Worldservers is their capacity. Servers don’t seem to be able to host many players at all, with some still experiencing queue times a week after launch. Additionally, there aren’t enough servers to choose from, corralling thegame’s more than 1 million playersinto a relatively limited number of choices.
2Default Key Inputs Don’t Always Work
An uncommon problem, but one that some players have been experiencing, is the unreliability of interacting with the world. Pressing “E” on some elements throughout Aeternium allows the player to interact with them, but some players aren’t able to do this at all on their characters.
It’s not known whether it’s a player-side issue or a server latency issue, but it locks players out of a number of things and activities in the game.

1Weapon and Armor Clipping
The immersion that a game likeNew Worldcan provide is astonishing, as players find it easy to feel like they are truly taking part in a living, populated world. Bugs can ruin this sense of immersion for some people, though, andNew Worldis the latest victim of one of theoldest issues in 3D gaming: clipping.
Weapons and armor will clip through each other very often, some of which can’t be fixed easily thanks to the many different types of armor. There are some much worse issues, though. For example, some players have noticed that having two staves equipped makes them both clip into each other in the same location on the character’s back as they occupy the same space.
