Cart racers aren’t anything new. From the very second psuedo-3D graphics were invented, developers have been putting players behind the wheel of a car. With the advent oftheMario Kartseries, clones started to crop up from every corner of the gaming industry. In just the last few years, there have been countless cart racers that have tried to replicateMario Kart’s satisfying gameplay and distinct cheery charm. None have found the same level of success, regardless of any Nickelodeon licenses or Disney theming. Still, that won’t stop developers trying, and the recently announcedWarped Kart Racersis certainly going to try.

Announced just a few days ago,Warped Kart Racersis an upcoming Apple Arcade exclusive cart racer that puts players in the computer-drawn shoes of a variety of popular adult animation characters. With the Fox/20th Century license propelling this cart racer forward, players can look forward to jumping behind the wheel of Hank Hill’s lawnmower, colliding with Peter Griffin, and zooming past the alien cast ofSolar Opposites. Whilethe starting roster of 20 charactersfromFamily Guy, American Dad, Solar Opposites, andKing of the Hillis impressive, there’s room for more.

Bob’s Burgers

The first set of characters that should head toWarped Kart Racersas DLC arethe cast ofBob’s Burgers. Another family-oriented adult animation,Bob’s Burgersmanages to stand out from the crowd by delivering characters that feel so utterly genuine that audiences can’t help but feel connected to their daily struggles and scrapes.

Theentire Belcher familywould fit right intoWarped Kart Racers, each with their own unique cart. Bob could drive a mini version of the family’s red sedan, while Gene could ride in an oversized cardboard hamburger, a reference to the burger costume he wears throughout the show.

Futurama

One of the best animated shows of the early 2000s,Futurama’s cast of zany characters would make another great addition toWarped Kart Racers. Putting in characters likeZoidberg and Benderwould go a long way to making the game look a little more varied, as many of the game’s current racers have pretty similar color palettes and visual designs.

When it comes toFuturama-themed carts, there’s plenty of inspiration to draw from. The most obvious choice for aFuturamacart is, of course, the lime green Planet Express Ship, which is a focal point of just about every episode of the show since the crew uses it to hop between planets. Just about any ofthe mainFuturamacastcould sit behind the ship’s wheel, but it would make the most sense for Leela to be in the pilot’s seat, with her being its captain.

The Simpsons

For the rest of the cast, there are a ton of miscellanous flying cars that appear throughout the show that would make for exciting cart designs. For Bender, though, there could be something a little more unique. Rather than be sat in a cart, Bender could be the cart, with a design based on his Were-Car appearance from “The Honking” episode.

The Simpsons

Though its popularity and public reception may have waned a little in recent years,The Simpsonsis still an incredibly influential show, and not throwing in the classic cast of characters seems like a bit of a waste forWarped Kart Racers. Of course, the entire Simpsons family should make an appearance, and for their carts, there’s already plenty of inspiration out there, with games likeSimpsons Hit & RunandRoad Rageincluding a wide range ofSimpsons-themed vehicles.

One ofthe best aspects ofThe Simpsonshas always been its Springfield-sized secondary cast, each one more unique and memorable than the last. Picking just a handful of the show’s most popular secondary characters would likely add a lot of variety toWarped Kart Racers.

Warped Kart Racersis in development for iOS through Apple Arcade.
