New game plus has become an increasingly common feature in video games. While it was usually in RPGs, new game plus has gradually been implemented into action games as well. One of the more recent examples of new game plus is the implementation of it intoAlan Wake 2post-launch.Referred to as The Final Draft, new game plus forAlan Wake 2has all of the features that you’d come to expect.
But Remedy has taken a twist beyond the usual letting all weapons and upgrades carry over that new game plus is known for, so here is everything new inAlan Wake 2’s unique version of new game plus.
This guide contains spoilers, so proceed with caution.
What Carries Over?
All weapons, charms, and upgrades carry over when you start The Final Draft. Unlike many new game plus modes, you will not have access to any of your equipment from the previous playthrough until you reach the first Shoebox duringReturn 2: The Heart. Inside will be any supplies that players had at the end of the game.
Manuscript Fragments can still becollected from lunch boxes, so it will be easier to upgrade more weapons during The Final Draft. Inventory upgrades will persist along with any weapons you unlocked during the first playthrough, so you will not need to worry about that.
Some story-related items do NOT carry over and players will have to obtain them again. This includes things likethe Bolt Cutters.
How to Start The Final Draft
Before Final Draft can be accessed, you must beatAlan Wake 2. It doesn’t matter what difficulty you beat the game on, The Final Draft will be available after the credits roll. Upon selecting The Final Draft, you will have the option to choose difficulty. While Nightmare is available, you do not have to play The Final Draft on that difficulty if you don’t want to.
What is Different in The Final Draft?
One thing that you will immediately notice at the start of The Final Draft is the new opening which very clearly referencesthe ending ofAlan Wake 2. After some new dialogue, the game resumes with the prologue as normal. During The Final Draft, players will encounter new manuscript pages along the way. Most excitingly, there is a new ending awaiting those who manage to make it all the way to the end of the game again.
