Guardians of the Galaxy3 concluded the long-running trilogy with an emotional rollercoaster. This time, the intergalactic mercenaries were tasked with saving one of their own due to Rocket’s troubled past and unfinished business that needed to be addressed. The film also delves into Rocket’s origin story, revealing how he became the talking and intelligent raccoon known today. However, his past is intertwined with one of the greatest adversaries the Guardians have ever faced.
Rocket wasn’t the sole experiment of the High Evolutionary. Among batch 89, there were various animals, including an otter named Lylla, a rabbit named Floor, and a walrus named Teefs. All of the batch-89 members had a tragic outcome including Teefs who has previously also appeared in Marvel comics under a different alias.

Teefs was a member of Batch 89, along with Rocket, Lyla, and many others. Genetically modified by the High Evolutionary, Teefs was an experiment intended to become the perfect creature suitable for inhabiting his new world, which bore a striking resemblance to Earth. Teefs, in reality, was a Walrus who gave himself the nickname Teefs due to his prominent tusks. Teefs had a deep accent that impeccably matched his appearance and personality. Teefs was modified to have wheels attached to his legs, enabling him to walk. Teefs could also communicate like the rest of the members of the batch and had mechanical eyelids that shuttered open.
Rocket, as the final member of Batch 89, was initially welcomed by Teefs himself. Teefs might well havebeen Rocket’s first true friend, a gentle giant in every sense. Regrettably, like the other members of Batch 89, except for Rocket, Teefs did not survive. When Rocket alerted all his friends to the High Evolutionary’s plan to eliminate them, he opened their cage for their escape. However, Teefs remained in a state of shock. Just as Lylla stepped out from the cage and hugged Rocket, she was fatally shot by the High Evolutionary. Enraged, Rocketpounced on the High Evolutionary, ferociously tearing at his face, while the rest of Batch 89 watched in shock. Teefs called Rocket to stop, but he was caught in the crossfire by the guards, along with Floor, resulting in both of their deaths. Rocket was left as the sole survivor of the batch and escaped the ship using another vessel.
Does Teefs Appear In Marvel Comics?
While there isn’t a character named Teefs in Marvel comics, the character clearly pays homage to Walrus from theGuardians of the Galaxycomics. Just as in the film, Walrus is portrayed as a close friend to Rocket. However, in contrast to the movie, Walrus remains alive and aids Rocket in various instances when confronting his adversaries. Lylla, another character from the comics, is also portrayed as alive and shares an intimate connection with Rocket.
In the comics, Walrus is a middle-aged uncle of Lylla, and is an engineer. Their earliest recorded adventure dates back to their team-up in defending Lylla’s toy company during a war. Since then, Walrus has come to Rocket’s rescue on numerous occasions, even assisting him in battles against formidable foes like Black Jack O’Hare. In comparison to his film counterpart, Teefs is portrayed as a considerably more active and intelligent creature within the comic book narratives.
Walrus has technically also previously made an appearance in aGuardians of the Galaxyfilm prior to the release of the third volume. In a scene related to the love bot inGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Walrus can be spotted in a portrait hanging on the wall behind the character. Who Plays Teef In Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3?
