Assassin’s Creedis a franchise that is always busy, and there seldom goes a year without some release. Ubisoft has revealed that gamers can expect a lot from the franchise in the future, including a Japan-based game codenamedAssassin’s Creed Red. This title is greatly anticipated, as many fans have hoped for aJapaneseAssassin’s Creedgamefor a long time. Although the game is confirmed to be in development, it might be a while before anyone plays it.

It is no secret that many Ubisoft franchises have failed to meet expectations and that the company has had to narrow its focus as a result. Although this won’t causeAssassin’s Creedto go under, it makes it more unlikely for multiple titles to be released in the same year. WithAssassin’s Creed Miragealready scheduled for 2023, gamers will probably only seeAssassin’s Creed Redin 2024 or later.

Ubisoft Already Has Assassin’s Creed Mirage Planned

Last year, rumors started swirling that Ubisoft is working on a spin-off title based onBasim, who is a character inAssassin’s Creed Valhalla. The rumors claimed that it would be a smaller game with an emphasis on stealth gameplay. According to gaming journalist Jason Schreier, the game was being worked on under the codenameAssassin’s Creed Riftbefore being officially revealed asAssassin’s Creed Mirage. The game will be a coming-of-age story showing how Basim learns to fight for something greater than himself by becoming a Hidden One.

Assassin’s Creed Mirageis currently slated for June 2023 release, and this makes it very unlikely thatAssassin’s Creed Redwill be showing up this year. Ubisoft will likely be far busier promotingMirage. Although it is possible for the massive studio to work on and promote both games at once, recent events at the studio suggest that Ubisoft is far more likely to handle things one game at a time.

Ubisoft Is Struggling With its Franchises

Although Ubisoft is still churning a good profit for itself, it is facing disappointments with some of its franchises. There have been several delays, as seen withSkull and Bonesand the studio’sAvatargame. Furthermore, manyplanned Ubisoft titles have since been canceled, including aSplinter Celltitle andGhost Recon Frontline. One of the reasons why this is happening is because some of its big titles, includingMario + Rabbids: Sparks of HopeandJust Dance 2023have not met expectations. Consequently, the studio has had to rethink its focus and enact cost-saving strategies.

With this in mind, it is reasonable to expect that Ubisoft will play things cautiously in 2023. Instead of several massive releases, gamers should expect fewer big releases this year. The studio is certainly not about to abandonAssassin’s Creedanytime soon, though it is also likely not confident enough to promote two games from the franchise at once. The safer strategy is to focus onMirageand allow it to receive full attention and maximize sales before moving on to the next title.

Though it is unlikely that gamers will seeAssassin’s Creed Redsoon, there is a slight chance it could make an appearance at E3 2023 where Ubisoft has confirmed that the franchise will have a big presence. This could include a new trailer forRed, though the studio could also choose to focus solely onMirage.E3 2023 is scheduled to take place in June, and it could be the event where gamers find out a lot more about Ubisoft’s future.

Assassin’s Creed Redis currently in development.
