Mounted Combat May Not Be in the Cards For Monster Hunter Wilds
There’s a chance that someweapons could be reworked inMonster Hunter Wilds, but using weapons while mounted probably won’t be included. On the surface, it sounds like a good idea. After all, the series' core gameplay revolves around fighting monsters, and mounted combat seems like something that would make for a natural addition. The fact that the mount inMonster Hunter Wildslooks to be an important new part of the game only adds more credence to such an argument. However, it’s unlikely to appear for one major reason.
The demands of adding mounted weapon combat make it something players shouldn’texpect fromMonster Hunter Wilds. If the game were to go in that direction, then every weapon would need a new set of animations for use when mounted. Considering that some weapons such as the switch axe and charge blade are already complicated enough as is, such an idea may be more trouble than it’s worth. Considering thatMonster Hunter Wildsalready looks ambitious, using weapons while mounted probably might not even be necessary. It seems like the mount will already have enough utility on its own without adding extra weapon animations.
How Monster Hunder Wilds Can Sidestep Mounted Combat
IfMonster Hunter Wildsdoes have some form of mounted combat, it will likely be influenced byMonster Hunter Rise’s Palamutes. Similar toWilds' new mount, players could ride Palamutes for a speed boost, and they could even attack monsters while riding. However, these attacks would come from the Palamute’s own weapon rather than the players'. InMonster Hunter Wilds, the mount could have its own way of attacking, either with a selection of forgable weapons or through simply clawing and biting at foes. There is already a decent blueprint laid out thatMonster Hunter Wildscan expand upon with its new mount.
In addition to riding Palamutes,Monster Hunter Risealso let players temporarily ride on monsters through the Wyvern Riding mechanic, even granting them access to said monster’s attacks, making it a useful tool in hunts.
Monster Hunter Wildscan bring new, exciting ideas to the series, but fighting while mounted may not be one of them.Monster Hunter Wildsmay replace Palamutes with its new mount, but that doesn’t require it to rework large parts of the formula in the process. Using the player’s own weapons for mounted combat may not be a good fit for the game, even if the idea does sound appealing.Monster Hunter Wildsmight have a brand-new mount, but that doesn’t mean it will rework the series' combat around it.
