Summary

An associate narrative director forMarvel’s Wolverinerecently announced that she will be departing Insomniac Games for a new role atWitcherdeveloper CD Projekt Red. Announced during the 2021 PlayStation Showcase,Marvel’s Wolverineis set to be a grittier, more mature game than Insomniac’s relatively lighter and mega-popularSpider-Mantitles.

Three years later, though, not much has been said aboutWolverine, at least officially. The enormous Insomniac data breach in December 2023 leaked huge chunks of sensitive information aboutWolverine, such as its plot points, characters, licensing agreements, and voice cast, with even playable alpha builds of the game making their way to dataminers. Even after suffering the devastating leak,Insomniac affirmed in an official statementthat development onWolverinewill continue as planned, and a proper reveal will happen when the studio is ready.

While fans patiently wait to see more ofWolverinein the future, it seems to have recently lost some major talent behind the scenes. In a newLinkedIn post, formerWolverineassociate narrative director Mary Kenney announced that she recently left Insomniac for a senior writer position at CD Projekt Red, which is currently developingthe sequel toCyberpunk 2077(codenamedProject Orion) and the next entry in theWitcherseries. Kenney lent her talents to Insomniac for over five years, during which she also worked onSpider-Man: Miles MoralesandRatchet and Clank: Rift Apart.

A few months prior to Kenney’s departure, the art director forWolverine, Aaron Habibipour, also exited Insomniac to work for CD Projekt Red. Kenney didn’t specify which project she’s working on at the Polish RPG studio, but Habibipour did confirm that he’s part of theProject Orionteam. Although the departures may seem alarming to fans, it should help to know that the Insomniac title has been in the works for a long time, and theleaks likely prove thatWolverine’s narrativeand art direction are set in stone by now. Therefore, Kenney’s and Habibipour’s departures don’t seem to hint at any internal turmoil or development challenges.

Meanwhile, progress for CD Projekt Red’s games appears to have ramped up, as the studiowrapped up development onCyberpunk 2077some time back to fully focus on its future projects.Wolverineis much further along its development cycle, but neither Insomniac nor Sony have confirmed an official release window at the time of writing. If Insomniac’s track record is anything to go by, though, fans shouldn’t have anything to be worried about.
