Valentine’s Day is next Monday, and many people are hunting for the perfect gift and ideal card for their significant other. While one can always simply buy a card, there’s an appeal to giving a gift they made themselves.
OneWordlefan created a card inspired by the popular free-to-play word game. It shows the characteristicWordlegrid with the green “correct” boxes lit up in the shape of a heart and the flirtations pun, “Word-le you be mine?”

Reddit user Bbrz12 created the design using hdb, an iPhone app that lets users make and send custom virtual greeting cards. They shared their card on theWordlesubreddit, which saw a generally positive reception. However, one person facetiously pointed out that the shape wouldn’t be possible in the actual game, asWordleplayers can’t keep guessingafter finding the correct answer. Still, that kind of technicality doesn’t take away from the cool design and sweet gesture.
AWordle-themed Valentine’s Day card is even more appropriate than one might expect. The popular word game actually began as a romantic gesture.Wordle’screator, Josh Wardle, designed it as a gift for his wife, who is a fan of word puzzle games. That’s at least part of the reason thatWordle –the real version ofWordleat least– is completely free-to-play with no monetization systems or psychological tactics.
Despite the game’s massive popularity, the Wordle subreddit isn’t the most active community on Reddit. It has a relatively modest 11,700 members, comparable to some of the more niche interest groups on the site. Many posts have less than a dozen comments, though a few, primarily those discussingWordlestrategies, manage to take off in a big way. Unfortunately, that means Bbrz12’s card doesn’t appear to have received the attention their clever design arguably deserves.
Wordle isn’t the only game whose fans are in a playfully romantic mood. Recently, anOld School RuneScapefanshared variousRuneScape-themed Valentine’s Cards. And as is tradition for themed cards, they included a variety of deliberately-bad puns such as “There’s GNOME one like you,” and “I’m head OGRE Feldip hills for you.”
Fans of other games, includingFor Honor,Fallout: New Vegas,The Legend of Zelda, andAnimal Crossing, shared their custom card designs as well. Many are also deliberately bad inside jokes, such as a Legionnaire fromFallout:New Vegassaying, “Degenerates like you belong… In my heart!” However, others, like theAnimal Crossingexamples, are professional-quality work that any fan would love to find in their mailbox.
