Summary

Whenever there is a loot system in a video game, there is often a divide between gear that looks good, and gear that has good stats, forcing the player to begrudgingly use one over the other.World of Warcrafthad such a system, as the only way for players to wear their personal favorite armor was to equip said armor.

However, that all changed with theCataclysmexpansion, introducing the transmogrification system, allowing players to remodel the appearance of their armor with other armor, while still keeping the original armor’s stats. Among the various classes, Paladins had some great-looking sets, more of which would be added in the game’s future. Nowadays, paladins have a plethora of eye-catching sets that are worth farming for.

Moonlit Belt of Unrelenting Justice

Releasedduring the “Seeds of Renewal” patch inDragonflight, fans ofWorld of Warcraftare treated to a unique take on the Paladin armor with theMoonlit Burden of Relenting Justice. Compared to other “Grand Knight” concepts associated with the holy crusader, the Moonlit Burden instead shrouds the Paladin in mystery. The whole armor is cloaked with a pearl-white main color and silvery details, making the Paladin shimmer in the same way as moonlight.

In terms of the armor itself, the Moonlit Burden is comprised of heavy plate with thick bracers, leggings, and pauldrons. The shoulderplates in particular have side protrusions that form a collar surrounding the helm, which in itself is seemingly shaped like an owl’s head with the brows protruding into spiky edges. Completing the mysterious allure of the armor is a cape and a cloak lined with feathers and spikes.

Dazar’alor Raid Plate

TheDazar’alor Raid Plateis an interesting take on the plate armor, particularly due to its source. Acquired from the Battle of Dazar’alor inBattle for Azeroth, a Paladin can get a more “grounded” look. Compared to other suits of armor that give Paladins a holy flair, the Dazar’alor Raid Plate adds viciousness to the Paladin’s personality.

The armor itself is seemingly made from the skeleton of a monster, with almost all armor parts having protrusions - whether bones splitting into spikes or actual spikes inserted onto the surface of the armor. Smaller bones outline the armor in the form of details, and the right side of the armor is adorned with a gigantic bone piece that almost acts like a shield or as a means to intimidate foes. Wisps of cold blue energy emanate from the back of the armor - a far cry from the Paladin’s traditional warm yellow Light.

Crystalforge Armor

Crystalforge Gauntlets

Acquired from Shattrath City, it makes sense for theCrystalforge Armorto be heavily inspired by crystals. Compared to other Paladin armor characterized by a familiar knightly style with gold details and ornamented pieces, the Crystalforge Armor is almost that of pure amethyst.

The armor itself is all shades of blue and purple. The undersuit ofthe Paladin armorhas the same shade of purple as the rest of the piece, with the only specks of blue appearing on the undershirt, kneepads, and leg guards. The rest of the piece has iron details, primarily noticeable on the bracers and the leggings. Unique to the piece is the cowl helm with the face cover, as well as a three-layered pair of pauldrons. The surface of the pauldrons seems to crackle with energy as crystal shards are floating off it. The pauldrons, the eyes, and the spikes on the helm all glow a faint purple.

Battlegear of Guiding Light

Gauntlets of Guiding Light

The appearance of theBattlegear of Guiding Lightmakes its Tier 17 Raid Set classification sensible, especially with its sophisticated appearance. Beginning with a chainmail undergarment, the rest of the piece is comprised of regal plate with polished gold details, with attention to detail paid to the gauntlets, glove fingertips, ornate pauldrons, and plate collar, as well as the helmet. Unlike other crystal-themed Paladin armor, the Battlegear of Guiding Light is almost intimidating in appearance. Its full helm opens only with slits, all of which glow with purple crystals similar to the ends of the pau ldrons. On top of the helm is a large purple gem, acting almost like a power source.

As a Raid Set, the Battlegear of Guiding Light has different bonuses depending on the Paladin subclass and set bonus (2-piece or 4-piece). Holy Paladins who cast Light of Dawn have a chance of casting a free Flash of Light and vice versa. Protection Paladins can boost their block chance when using Avenger’s Shield while blocking a physical attack has a chance of boosting Shield Block Value. Lastly, Retribution Paladins who spend Holy Power can reset the CD of certain abilities while their Judgment can cause their next Divine Storm or Templar’s Verdict to refund a point of Holy Power.

Bindings of the Silver Hand

Legionintroduced the Order Hall, playing heavily into class fantasy and identity. Every class got a unique armor set, but some of them didn’t look as good as others, with the transmogs obtained from dungeons and raids being better options to go for.

On the contrary, the Paladin Order Hall set does look good, and is visually, clearly a paladin. The design also somewhat resembles the valkyr, additionally found in the Warrior Order Hall, thematically making sense as they can also raise the dead. It’s a great budget set, as it doesn’t rely on luck or an insane grind to achieve, but still doesn’t look as good as higher-tier transmogs.

Wrathful Gladiator’s Ornamented Gloves

Most of the PvP transmog sets aren’t seen as commonly as raid or dungeon sets due to the requirement to engage in PvP content. PvE content is the main draw ofWoW, so it makes sense, but some of the PvP sets still look great.

The Wrathful Gladiator’s Redemption is one of the better sets, with colors belonging to paladins. The golden color is obvious due to their affinity with the light, and the silver fits due to the Knights of the Silver Hand, making a great thematic set for paladins, especiallyProtection Paladins.

Heartfire Sentinel’s Protectors

Raiding has always been the premier way to obtain the highest tier of transmogs. Aberrus delivered with a paladin set that fits the colors and identity of various fantasies of class.

With a long robe, it fits the aesthetic of aHoly Paladin, as transmog sets of the spec usually identify with such armor.

WoW blood elf wearing the Reinforced Sapphirium Battleplate transmog

This set is particularly interesting, as it has the dragon motif of the currentWorld of Warcraftexpansion while also looking like something that players could find in theDiabloseries.

Reinforced Sapphirium Battleplate

Cataclysmwas all about the carnagewrought upon Azeroth by Deathwingand the effect it had on the land and the elements. A lot of transmog sets were related to the elements, drawing upon such aesthetics.

The Reinforced Sapphirium Battleplate follows this, as the set is made out of stone, with gemstones inlaid throughout. The Heroic set is colored gray with gold, blue, and purple highlights, while the Normal variant has a dark blue appearance with orange accents.

WoW blood elf wearing the Battlegear of the Lightning Emperor transmog

Lightning Emperor’s Gauntlets

As Lei Shen and the Throne of Thunder are about all things storms and lightning, some of the sets from the raid would have a similar aesthetic. The Battlegear of the Lightning Emperor does indeed, with lightning arcs appearing on the shoulders.

Various colors will drop depending on the difficulty, such as a blue set for Heroic, a yellow set for Normal, and a green set for Raid Finder. Many players will also want to run this raid as it drops two mounts, so farming the transmog can be a bonus, especially withThe War Withinintroducing dynamic flying to many old mounts.

WoW blood elf wearing the Light’s Vanguard Battleplate transmog

Light’s Vanguard Gauntlets

As Antorus was the finale ofLegion,Blizzard had the task of creating transmogs befitting the final raid and the end of the Burning Crusade. Paladins certainly had no injustices dealt to them with their Antorus set, looking almost like a perfect representation ofdraenei paladinarmor.

There are various colors of this set from different difficulties from Antorus. The Mythic variant is white and gold with blue highlights, in addition to parts of the armor changing shape. The Normal version is a grayish color, the Heroic set has a black and copper aesthetic, while the Raid Finder variant has an autumn theme. There are also PvP recolors of the set for the corresponding faction.
