While an official X-Men project for the MCU proper is still a long way off, fans excited to see Storm specifically might not have to wait as long as everyone else, as a new rumor suggests that the Weather Witch will officially appear ahead of her teammates. According toCanWeGetSomeToast, Storm is set to appear in the upcoming third season of Marvel Studios’What If…?anthology series, which will mark the character’s debut in any MCU multiverse. WhileWhat If…?season 3 won’t be released until late 2024 or early 2025, this is still far earlier than any MCU X-Men film will premiere.

Including Storm inWhat If…?season 3will be an interesting prospect, as the show has given fans some seriously far-out versions of their favorite heroes and villains in situations that would never occur in the mainline MCU. While theWhat If…?format is so successful that Disney is rumored to be making aWhat If..?series for theStar Warsfranchise, this doesn’t mean that everyone is on board with Storm making her first MCU appearance in the show. Despite being something fans enjoy deeply, the show has no responsibility to present the character accurately, nor does any new and unique take on the character have any chance of sticking in actual canon representations.

The rumor’s veracity has also been questioned by fans, as people who worked onWhat If…?have claimed they weren’t allowed to use characters who haven’t already appeared in live-action MCU projects, meaning Storm would be off the board. However, it is possible Marvel Studios’ has changed this rule, made an exception in Storm’s case, or will introduce the character sooner than expected, provided the rumor is accurate.

While it won’t be canon,What If…?season 3’s rumored episode listhas revealed some significant stories that will be featured. While fans can wait patiently for the MCU to get to the actual introduction of the X-Men on screen,What If…?will make for a splendid distraction and perhaps even some exciting concepts for Storm.

What If…?season 3 is in production at Marvel Studios.
