Microsoft’s next-generation console, theXbox Series X, is now available worldwide. And while Xbox Live had some problems for a short time, the Xbox Series X launch has seemingly gone fairly smooth. However, there are now Xbox Series X users who are reporting a weird disc drive issue with the new console, as Xbox Series X disc drives are making loud noises when installing games from discs.
Various users on Twitter and elsewhere have reported the Xbox Series X disc drive noise problem, which seems to impact games with larger file sizes. The Xbox Series X disc drive noise issue isn’t universal (we were unable to replicate it in our own testing), but it’s definitely something that’s impacting quite a few Xbox Series X users. Microsoft has yet to comment on the matter, so for now,Series X fansare left in the dark as to why their consoles are making their noise, or if it’s indicative of a bigger problem.

So far, it doesn’t seem like the Xbox Series X disc drive noise problem is a serious issue. There doesn’t appear to be any reports of theXbox Series X disc drivecausing or being a sign of a bigger problem with the console. Users dealing with it just seem to think it’s annoying, but maybe they can rest easy if the noise doesn’t really mean anything is wrong with their Xbox Series X consoles.
Beyond the Xbox Series X disc drive noise, there doesn’t seem to be any other major issues with the new console. Some videos making the rounds online suggested thatsome Xbox Series X consoles had smoke coming out of them, but those have largely been debunked. While one person that claims to have experienced the problem says that Microsoft is “looking into” the issue, it’s been proven by others that the effect can be replicated with a vape pen. So it’s highly unlikely that anyone needs to worry about smoke coming out of their Xbox Series X consoles.
Prior to launch, there were concerns that theXbox Series X had an overheating problem. These concerns stemmed from a since-deleted YouTube video where the console was compared to a chimney. Then there was a video where a journalist appeared to “burn” their hand while holding an Xbox Series X storage expansion card. Other reports spoke out against those claims, and tests were conducted to prove that the Xbox Series X actually runs cooler than the Xbox One.
So while Xbox fans don’t have to worry about their consoles overheating or producing smoke, they may want to keep an eye on the Series X disc drive just in case.Xbox Series Sowners don’t have to worry about this problem as that version of the console doesn’t have a disc drive at all.
