Originally announced in 2021,XDefiantappears to be gunning forCall of Dutyas the competitive shooter king. The game’s premise draws on the multiverse that surrounds various Ubisoft-published titles, pulling in factions from different games likeThe Division’s Cleaners, the Libertad rebels fromFar Cry 6, and theSplinter Cellseries' Echelon organization into a large competitive free-for-all. It’s from these faction identities that developer Ubisoft San Francisco draws the traits of the game’s various playable characters. Now,XDefiantis up for pre-loading, with the full debut of the free-to-play shooter set for June 20, 2025.

Ubisoft detailed the different PC hardware specs that are recommended for runningXDefianton PC. In a hardware matrix, the company showed off the target resolutions and graphical presets for a range of gaming PC setups, ranging from a modest “Minimum” spec to a high-end “Ultra” spec. These include features like an uncapped frame rate, widescreen resolution options, and support for theNvidia Reflex latency reduction feature.

Based on the spectrum, the low-end performance requirements forXDefiantare fairly modest. The lowest specs call for a nearly five-year-old Intel processor and its AMD equivalent, with even older video cards like 2016’s Nvidia GTX 1050Ti able to run the game. Even the higher-end “Enthusiast” preset only demands an early RTX card like the 2060. Hardware requirements really only ramp up for the Ultra spec. It should be noted, though, thatXDefiantrecommends an SSDfor storage in all cases, to cut down on long load-times and improve asset streaming.
AsXDefiantis a free-to-play title, Ubisoft may be anticipating that players will be eager to try the game out on a wide range of potential hardware, and wisely targeted a lower-end spec to ensure that those players don’t get locked out by weaker PC specs. Ubisoft also committed to crowd-pleasing moves, likeexcluding Skill Based Matchmakingfrom the game’s casual playlists.
