The teases for Zack Snyder’s upcoming “Snyder Cut” of Justice League have been non-stop over the past couple of weeks, and don’t seem to be slowing down in the run-up to DC’s online FanDome convention. Snyder himself took to Twitter once again to share a sneak peek of the redesigned Steppenwolf as he will likely appear in Snyder’s version of the film.

Steppenwolf was the big bad of the theatrical cut ofJustice League, another super-powered foe seeking to bring Earth under his control with the help of the incredibly powerful Mother Boxes. He ended up being the main villain of the film, although rumors circulated that the original plans had intended for him to play second fiddle to fan-favorite Darkseid at some point during development. Actor Ray Porter even confirmed that he had been cast in the role before Snyder stepped down and his scenes were scrapped, andhas been a vocal supporter of the Snyder Cut’s releaseever since.

While his exact role in the Snyder Cut version of the film is difficult to guess, Snyder’s vision of the character is certainly much more imposing, featuring a bulkier build and thornier armor. Also unclear is the picture itself, which Snyder posted to social media platform Vero with an apology for the low resolution. Regardless, things are detailed enough to see that Snyder’s vision of the CGI villain will be quite a significant redesign, which bodes well for fans hoping the new version ofJustice Leaguegets all the polish it needs to realize the film’s original intent.

As a brief recap, the original theatrical release ofJustice Leaguehit theaters in March of 2018 to less than glowing reviews and wound up as the catalyst for amajor restructuring of the DC Cinematic Universe, with many films being cancelled in its wake. Many fans blamed the film’s poor showing on studio interference, claiming that Zack Snyder, who had left midway through production, would have created a better film if given the time and opportunity. Since then, due to pressure from fans, actors, and Snyder himself, a brand new “Snyder Cut” ofJustice Leagueis currently being produced, and will be released to HBO Max streaming when it is complete. Until it does, Snyder has been giving fans all sorts of peeks and teasers, and will likely continue to do so at the upcoming DC FanDome, which will be free to stream all day on August 22nd.
